Several times in the next month, whether by choice or by the dress code, you'll probably be wearing an ugly Christmas sweater (I know I will, probably too often!). Chances are it'll be on the weekends, so Monday-Thursday is a chance to give yourself a break from red noses and the cliche mistletoe. The shawl-collar sweater (or cardigan) can dress up any casual look on any day of the week. You may have seen the shawl collar on a tuxedo or formal suit jacket, and its a bold style move that makes the jump from 'ashy to classy'.
If you've already made the leap, you're well deserving of sitting at the table with James Bond and Tom Ford, two of my shawl collar icons that come to mind. A shawl collar is synonymous with class, which makes this sweater formal while still keeping things relaxed and comfortable.
Layering a shawl collar sweater over a button down will make the sweater more visually appealing, and provide warmth that the sweater alone won't give you. A monochromatic look like this is great for class or a casual Holiday dinner. If you want this sweater to keep fitting like a second skin, I'd suggest laying off the turkey.
